Dorothy is an artist from Buffalo, NY and a NYFA MARK alumnus. I haven't seen this "book" yet but this photo of it is intriguing to say the least. Looks to me to be a hilarious and creative take on what a book might be able to be. Love the hand sewn Twitter hashtag on the pink knitted pouch.
Van Houten's book A Simple Grammar will be printed on Asian paper with a soft cover. It contains images taken in Kerry County, Ireland during a residency last March. Including found domestic objects, lichen, stone ruins and West Kerry landscapes threaded together with the text of a Gaelic language book from 1894, the piece tells stories of an Irish village through the eyes of an outsider. Here are pages from the book pinned on Lori's studio wall as she works on sequencing.
I'm posting this link to my recently received conference registration update from Light Work for everyone's reference.
By the way, my understanding is that the Conference is now sold out.
With the bookMARKs deadline approaching quickly (just a bit more than three weeks to go!), those of you who are going the POD route should be wrapping things up soon. Just in time for this are discounts from Blurb and Lulu.
At Blurb, just apply the coupon code ADBLURB at checkout for a 20% discount, good through the end of 2011. Also, just for the month of October use the coupon code OCTOBER and get 20% off at checkout when ordering in 2 books.
Over at Lulu.com you can use the coupon code TANGO305 to get 15% off any order at checkout or use DANCE305 to get 20% off any order of $200. or more. The one BIG caveat is that these Lulu discounts are good only through tomorrow Friday October 7!
Just to be clear I endorse neither of these POD services but I am seriously considering taking advantage of one of these discounts just to try it out.
